Polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride is a kind of antibacterial polymer which contains a guanidine group in its main chain. It dissolves in water easily and forms into colorless odorless solution. It can be used as a broad-spectrum and high efficiency disinfectant.
Polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride is low toxic, steady, non-flammable, non-explosive, and basically non-corrosive to stainless steel, copper, carbon steel, wood, and plastic. Because of its special bactericidal mechanisms, almost all kinds of bacteria shall be killed efficiently and will not develop resistance action.
PHMG disinfectant is a high molecular polymer, which is easy to be washed away. It is non-corrosive to the skin, and can not be easily absorbed by human organs. This chemical performs good biocompatibility. PHMG can be widely used in textile, animal husbandry, aquiculture, medical sterilization, and daily disinfectant.

-Broad spectrum kills and inhibits various types of microbial:
Polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride is odorless and can be easily dissolved in water to form a tasteless colorless transparent solution. It can be used as disinfectant for almost all kinds of bacteria.
-Excellent stability
Polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride still keeps active after being heated at 280℃ for 15 min.
-Non-corrosive to metals
Polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride is non-corrosive to copper, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other metals.
1. The guanidine group in poly hexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride performs a high activity and the polymer itself is cationic. Since bacteria and viruses are usually anionic, they are easy to be absorbed by PHMG and could not divide and reproduce, and finally turn to inactive.
2. PHMG collapses the cell membrane structure and forms transmembrane stomata. Ultimately, it causes cell membrane rupture, disrupts the energy metabolism of the organism, and disables the bacteria and virus.
3. The polymer forms a film that closes off the breathing passages of microorganisms, causing them to suffocate and die.
The sterilization mechanism is not involved with the form and type of microorganisms. Even if the microorganisms mutate, the mutation will not affect their efficacy. Microorganisms do not produce resistance to poly hexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride.
Reacting with E. coli in suspension for 5 min, the average sterilization rate of disinfectant with 1800 mg/L PHMG is 99.95%.
Reacting with staphylococcus aureus for 5 min, the average sterilization rate of disinfectant with 2400 mg/L PHMG is 99.91%.
Reacting with candida albicans for 10 min, the average sterilization rate of disinfectant with 3200 mg/L PHMG is 99.95%.
Reacting with pseudomonas aeruginosa for 10 min, the average sterilization rate of disinfectant with 500 mg/L PHMG is 99.92%.
Reacting with HIV for 5 min, disinfectant with 1000 mg/L. PHMG can kill it completely.
Reacting with bacillus subtilis black variant budding cells for 4 h, the average sterilization rate of disinfectant with 5000 mg/L PHMG is 99.66%.
A foreign study shows that, disinfectant with 500 -2500 mg/L. PHMG can kill corynebacterium diphtheria, salmonella, proteus mirabilis, and fusobacterium dysenteriae if reacting with them for 5-15 min.
PHMG can efficiently kill many kinds of bacterial propagules. The exact effect increases by the concentration and effecting duration.
Polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride can efficiently kill bacterial propagules, fungi, and some viruses. 99.0% E.coli on dishware can be killed by PHMG after reacting for 1-5 min. PHMG is increasingly used in disinfection products in daily life. At the same time, PHMG can also be used in the disinfection of fruits and vegetables. Since fruits and vegetables are directly edible products, non-irritating is necessary for disinfection in this field. Compared with other chemical disinfection, PHMG is much more suitable.
Polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride is usually formulated with other water treatment chemicals. The exact formula depends on water and equipment conditions. The recommended dosage is 146 gm/L~13.5 g/L when used as a separate disinfectant. The dosage should be determined by the exact process and method if applied in textile and printing, livestock-raising, and aquaculture.
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. Protect from direct sunlight. The package must be sealed and not get wet. It should be stored separately from oxidizers, and flammable and combustible materials.
